PICTRIAL: Summer Sherbet Crochet Planter

Tutorial: Summer Sherbet Crochet Planter Cover | The Inspired Wren

When I set out to create summer inspired crochet planters, two things popped in my head: ridges and bright colors. It wasn't until after I purchased the yarn and plopped it in my basket that I was reminded of rainbow sherbet. Then, after I set the finished planter down and stepped back, I realized the horizontal ridges are reminiscent of that classic childhood craft, yarn wrapped cans. I love these! What a joyful combination of memories these bring back! I'm so happy they greet me every time I walk up to my kitchen sink. Bring some joy to your plants with a Summer Sherbet Crochet Planter Cover of your own!

The previous crochet planters I've hooked up have all been worked in the round. I tried creating the ridges in the round here but they didn't pop -- the ridge relief was too shallow for the look I wanted. I even tried a couple of different stitches. No go. So this is the first planter with each row worked and joined, followed by a rise and turn. Just be aware, the result is a seam running in a straight line up the back of the planter. Likewise, if this one is pulled too tight around the planter it can lose some of it's good ridgey depth. To compensate, I've added increases every three rows. Sadly, that means more counting as you go. But the final look is worth it!
